Women's Bass Fishing Association announces "Junior Membership Program"
For Immediate Release

January 24, 2000

Pelham, AL

In response to inquiries by many young female bass anglers, who are not eligible to fish the WBFA Tour due to age requirements, the WBFA has initiated a "Junior Membership Program".  Minors currently have to be sixteen years of age, with a parent or guardian release, in order to fish a regular season event on the National WBFA Tour Trail.

"There are literally tens of thousands of young female anglers out there who love to fish and who want to learn more about bass fishing", said Carole Cook, Business Manager of the WBFA.  "We want to share with them the insights, tips and techniques of the women on the WBFA Tour, in order to keep their interest and education of the sport at a peak level.  Fishing, and especially bass fishing, is a wonderful way for girls and young women to enjoy the outdoors while building an appreciation for nature, the environment and conservation of our natural resources", Cook Said.

With an eye turned toward the future of fishing, and the principles to be learned by those who love to fish, The WBFA is trying to offer a venue where youth can learn while being part of a sharing, National Organization.  Junior members will enjoy many of the same benefits as the adult members as well as other benefits designed just for them.  A chance to write articles for publication in the WBFA Outdoors publication, being featured in the publication, prizes and awards, free tackle and a subscription to the WBFA Outdoors magazine are just a few of the things that will be offered to Junior Members.

Karla Griggs, a thirteen year old from Tennessee, was the first Junior Member to join the WBFA and was an inspiration in the forming of the Junior Member Program.  Look for Karla's article in the upcoming issue of the WBFA Outdoors.
