Women's Bass Fishing Association (WBFA) 1999 Classic World Championship

Marksville, Louisiana
-- Thirty one of the world's finest anglers will converge here next month to compete for the title of World Champion among women bass anglers. They have reached the Women's Bass Fishing Association (WBFA) 1999 Classic World Championship by accumulating points throughout the WBFA Tour year.

Ray Scott, founder of Bass Angler's Sportsman Society (BASS) and the undisputed leader in the proliferation of bass fishing, will be in his familiar role as master of ceremonies for the final two weigh-in days, Friday, October 15 and Saturday October 16. The elite anglers will gather on Sunday, October 10 and begin practice fishing the Red River on Monday morning, October 11.After three practice days, the field will fish in competition beginning Thursday morning at safe light.

The Tunica-Biloxi Indians of Louisiana d.b.a. Grand Casino Avoyelles and CLECO is hosting the event in concert with the City of Marksville, LA.  Departure each morning will take place at the Ben Ruth boat ramp and weigh-in will be held at the Grand Casino Avoyelles beginning at 3 p.m. each day. A free concert will be presented to the public each day of the weigh-in at the weigh-in site from 2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The WBFA Tour Outdoors Expo, featuring displays and booths by many outdoor industry manufacturers, will begin at noon Thursday and Friday and end at 9 p.m., closing during the weigh-ins. On Saturday the Expo will be open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. except during the final weigh-in. Information on booth space for the Expo is available from Heavyweight Promotions, 800-225-7469.

During the exciting championship week, the WBFA Angler of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Amateur of the Year will be honored at separate banquets. The week's highlight will take place at the Saturday weigh-in when the 1999 World Champion of Women's Bass Fishing will be revealed.

The 31 anglers participating in the 1999 WBFA Classic World Championship come from 16 states, representing a wide cross section of women bassing enthusiasts. Many corporate sponsors support these professionals. Sponsors of the WBFA Tour are Mercury, Triton Boats, Humminbird Electronics, Deka Batteries, Flowmaster Exhaust Systems, Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits, Magellan GPS, Spiderwire, Minn Kota, Mitchell Rods and Reels, KicknBass Scents and Eidolon Bait Company.

There will be something for everyone at the WBFA Classic - a casting contest for kids provided by Spiderwire, autographs and tips from the pros and Ray Scott, free concerts, outdoor gear on display, the excitement of fishing competition among the best anglers anywhere and much more. A special "Meet the Pros" session is scheduled for Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Expo. WBFA invites the public to attend the championship weigh-ins and Expo in support of women's professional bass fishing.
