Suggestions for a Good Crankin' Line
| Dear Pro Staff,
A long time ago I used Bagley's Silver Thread copolymer line for my crankin' line. It was kind of a light silver/blue color and small in diameter for 16lb test and it gave the bait great action, depth & seemed to be very strong. They don't make it any more...does any one have some suggestions along these lines?

Tim, I loved that Silver Thread AN-40, it was great stuff! I have been crankin’ with Silver Thread 17# until recently. Now, I'm using Sugoi Fluorocarbon in 10# and I love it. The thin diameter and sinking characteristic helps me get crankbaits down deeper and allows the bait to work with excellent action. Also, the low stretch with this line makes for solid hooksets on long casts. That feature is especially important to me when I am throwing rip baits in clear water . . . long casts are necessary and it is not unusual to stick fish in the first few feet of the retrieve when a lot of line is out. The bottom "line" is that I can make longer casts, have better lure action and actually land more fish with this line.
Now, I don’t recommend it for top water lures as its sinking characteristic causes the lure to pull below the surface. But, next summer I plan to replace the braid on my frog rods with Sugoi Fluorocarbon so that I have the best of both worlds . . . strength, low stretch and abrasion resistance. Can’t wait!
