New Color 324
Seminole Green Makes the Scene
By Ben Matsubu & Russ Bassdozer

March 11, 2003

"I don't know what there is about this color, but 324 has become my main money maker and confidence color of 2003, and it's my favorite color on my home lake, Toledo Bend," says Bassmaster Pro Tour angler Ben Matsubu, currently (at this writing) 58th among the top 175 Bassmaster anglers in the world. "I'd like to thank Yamamoto customer Jim Trogdon for a great color suggestion," says Ben.

"During pre-practice for the Bassmaster Pro Tour on Lake Seminole (Bainbridge, GA) in February, 2002, I had the good fortune to hook up with hot local angler, Jim Trogdon," says pro, Ben Matsubu.

A Yamamoto customer, Jim had established quite a reputation for himself on Seminole, night-fishing for monster bass with 10-series Yamamoto grubs and 9-series Senkos.

In phone conversations with Jim, he told me to better have some watermelon with green flake Senkos made for Seminole.

Anything watermelon is a good color, says Ben, but there's something about Jim's suggestion of green with green flake that made a huge difference on Seminole. The fish ate them, not only on Seminole, but everywhere we tried from Florida to Texas and all waters in between, says Matsubu. I'd like to thank Yamamoto customer Jim Trogdon for a great color suggestion, says Ben.

Especially after it fades to brown, 324 reminds me of 196 (rootbeer w/black & green) or even more like 296 (rootbeer w/black & double green) - only 324 is better for me, says Ben.

"Guys who were using other similar colors now have another angle with 324," adds Internet bass fishing guru, Russ Bassdozer. "For example, if I am having success with a certain color, I will try to open up the pattern by experimenting with similar closely-related colors. I work from the inside out, so to speak, rather than just jumping off into unrelated colors. For example, if I have a bite going on 140 (cinnamon w/green), I can now segue into 324 (watermelon w/green), to see if I can expand the bite from 140 into 324. It's always better to have two similar colors that work together well, rather than just one solo color," grins Bassdozer.
